The FBI announced on Thursday that they have arrested the leader and co-founder of Mexico’s infamous Sinaloa cartel, along with one of Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman’s sons.

The Equity Division affirmed that Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada and Joaquin Guzman Lopez were captured in El Paso, Texas. A senior authority told CBS News that Zambada was arrested by the FBI with next to no issues along the U.S. line.

Attorney General Merrick Garland announced that the Justice Department has arrested two more alleged leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel, one of the world’s most violent and powerful drug trafficking organizations.

Zambada was arraigned in Brooklyn in February on fentanyl dealing and different charges. The two men currently face numerous charges in the U.S. for their parts in driving the cartel’s crimes, including its perilous fentanyl creation and dealing tasks.

FBI Director Christopher Wray stated that Garcia and Guzman have allegedly been responsible for trafficking tens of thousands of pounds of drugs into the United States, along with the associated violence.

Zambada was finally arrested after being a fugitive in the U.S. for many years. Back in 2016, the State Department had offered a $5 million reward for information leading to his capture, and the DEA later increased the reward to $15 million.

DEA Executive Anne Milgram expressed that Zambada’s capture “raises a ruckus around town of the cartel liable for the greater part of the medications, including fentanyl and methamphetamine, that are causing passings across America.”

The Sinaloa cartel, based in Tijuana and active since the 1980s, is one of Mexico’s most powerful and violent criminal organizations. Zambada founded the cartel with “El Chapo,” who was captured in 2016 and is now serving a life sentence in a U.S. maximum security prison for drug trafficking and money laundering. After “El Chapo” was arrested, Zambada took over the cartel. Milgram noted that Lopez and several of his brothers have also been leading the cartel since their father’s arrest.

Lopez is one of El Chapo’s 12 kids, with four of them known as “Los Chapitos” because of their huge contribution in Sinaloa’s tasks. Lopez was first arraigned on government drug dealing with charges 2018 and has had to deal with different penalties from that point forward.

In April 2023, three of the Chapitos were among 28 individuals connected to the Sinaloa cartel blamed for running a significant fentanyl dealing activity into the U.S. Principal legal officer Merrick Laurel and other Equity Division authorities considered these people answerable for the heartbreaking deficiency of a huge number of American lives because of fentanyl.
