NABJ President Ken Lemon emphasized that the decision to invite former President Trump to the convention reflects the association’s commitment to facilitating open dialogue with key political figures, a practice established since 1976. ‘Our invitation should not be interpreted as a show of endorsement,’ Lemon stated.
He also noted that the event will include rigorous fact-checking by panelists to provide a clear and accurate discussion of the former president’s remarks.
Ken Lemon, President of the NABJ, highlighted the significance of the upcoming November elections, stating, ‘Many lives are at stake based on what happens in November. As journalists, it’s our duty to engage in tough conversations for the benefit of our members, making this an essential moment for us.’
The decision to include a Q&A session with former President Trump has sparked controversy, leading to the resignation of Karen Attiah, the convention’s co-chair.
